Welcome!

Hi there!
Welcome to my first blog and post.

Why do I need more bookshelves?
I grew-up in a book-collecting homeschool family and the most common complaint was " We need more bookshelves." Now that I am adding to my own home library it is still the same scenario!

Reading is my favorite thing to do. I enjoy browsing through friends' bookshelves to see what they like and recommend.

So, go ahead and look through my shelves. Grab a cup of coffee and let's discuss our favorite titles and which ones we have yet to read!

And as we acquire new bookshelves, the next call is for more wallspace (to put more bookshelves up). LOL
I've loved the Internet for book searching. There are some out-of-print children's books I especially hunted for.
But I'm eclectic in reading-- perhaps developed somewhat from growing up with Readers Digest Condensed Books.

I am a book collector, who married a book collector -- so we were in trouble to start with. But, now we homeschool and are definately in need of many more bookshelves and walls to place them LOL.

I can relate! My husband and I have been known to spend more money on books on our vacations than food and lodging combined! (That, of course, was before children!) We still spend a lot on books, but those 5 kids sure eat a lot!

You can never have too many books, just too few shelves!

Great blog idea! I am a book lover. Love to read them, love to hold them, love to look at them on my shelves!

I must admit that I have had to give up some of my books as moving them and finding enough shelves and or wall space became a problem.

I have spent the past 2 years going through my books and deciding which ones were the best, which ones were similar to the best and which ones were really more for my addiction than for quality. I have donated dozens of boxes of books, either to other homeschoolers or to our local thrift store. At first it was painful to give away my friends, but now I find contentment in blessing others.

I still have quite a few books, but with my oldest three graduated now, I have found a good sense of what I want to use for my final two, what I want to pass on to my kids when they have kids/home educate, and which of my dearest friends will grace my shelves through my old age.

Can't wait to see what you all read, like/dislike and what has found a home on your shelves. :)

Our children used to beg me not to stop at any more bookstores when we would travel, but they also loved being read to when we homeschooled. We have a lot of favorites and I'm saving them now for our grandchildren.

In the meantime, one of the best resources for building bookshelves came from Jan Bloom, author of "Who Should We Then Read?" Jan is a dear, godly woman and personal friend. If you've met her at homeschool conventions then you know just what I mean. If not, look at her website at:
http://www.booksbloom.com/, and also check out her blog. Jan and Gary, her husband, would love to help you with bookshelf ideas.

Blessings!

What a great idea for a blog. I love, love, love books. We have finished homeschooling but I still cherish many of the books we used. Besides--there's the grandchildren.

When I think about selling some of them, my two adult sons say "how can you sell that, don't you remember when ..." Aah, I love those memories and look forward to making some more with my grandson.

Best wishes to you as you start this new adventure.
